ZUZI Arts Lab hosts two types of classes: those taught by ZUZI Staff, and others taught by a variety of Guest Artists. Therefore, we have two ways to register for classes.

To find out more information or to register for classes taught by ZUZI Staff please call 629-0237 or arrive 15-20 minutes prior to class. To register for classes taught at the ZUZI School by Guest Artists, (indicated with a * below) please contact that instructor directly. This instructor will handle your registration and tuition independently from ZUZI!

AERIAL TRAPEZE &   CREATIVE MOVEMENT , ages 4-6 – This class begins with 20 minutes of creative movement that encourages free expression, while teaching elements of dance including rhythm, movement quality and body awareness.  After floor work, children spend 30 minutes exploring low-flying aerial trapeze.

AERIAL, BEGINNING  ages 7-10 - Students combine dance with low-flying single point trapeze in a supportive and safe environment. In addition to learning aerial skills, students work on building spatial awareness, trust and cooperation. 

AERIAL, BEGINNING  Ages 15+ - Students combine dance with low-flying single point trapeze in a supportive and safe environment. In addition to learning aerial skills, students work on building spatial awareness, trust and cooperation. 

AERIAL TECHNIQUE, INTERMEDIATE  ages 9-12 - For those students with aerial experience, this class offers the next step to advancing their skills.  We will concentrate on the importance of fluidity while dancing on the trapeze, as well as how to incorporate dance on the floor.  We will learn new hangs, swings and work on all skills learned previously.

AERIAL TECHNIQUE, INTERMEDIATE  age 12+ (For those students with aerial experience, this class offers the next step to advancing their skills and refining technique.

*BELLY DANCE TECHNIQUE CLASS, Level 1 & 2* (Gina Gonzalez) - Appropriate for all levels and styles.  Focusing on technique, covering safe, proper posture and alignment, muscle control, endurance, isolation and flexibility.  Class consists of a full warm-up, dance movement drills, technique drills and ends with choreography.  The class provides an introduction or review of Middle Eastern rhythms, music, dances and customs.  Please contact Gina Gonzalez for registration and rates at: (520) 370-9927, gina@raksgina.com or www.raksgina.com.  *prerequisite: Level 1

*FLAMENCO (La Lea, Maile Nadelhoffer) - Flamenco is famous for its fiery, rhythmic footwork and graceful arm movements.  In class, technique focuses on rhythms, footwork, posture, structure and choreography.  Please contact Maile Nadelhoffer at (520) 247-5567, flamencotucson@hotmail.com

*FLAMENCO DANCE FOR ADULTS & TEENS (Adair Landborn) Fall Classes Start August 5th

Develop your understanding of flamenco rhythms by learning basic castanet playing techniques. Training integrates castanet playing with simple dance steps to maximize your learning of the remarkable art of flamenco.

· BEGINNING FLAMENCO DANCE 

TUESDAYS 6–7 PM      ZUZI! West Studio

Come learn the sinuous arm movements, rhythms, and footwork techniques that typify the flamenco dance style. Students experience the rich mystery of flamenco expressivity by learning choreography based on a fundamental musical form, Soleares, which is revered as “the mother of flamenco song.”

*Flamenco Dance for Kids (Adair Landborn) Fall Classes Start August 19th

TUESDAYS 4:30–5:30PM    ZUZI! West Studio

This flamenco dance class introduces kids to all the basics of the flamenco dance technique: rhythmic footwork patterns, expressive arm movements, and full-bodied fun! High quality instruction in both technique and repertory increases each student’s self-confidence and musical understanding. Students practice the basic rhythms of the Rumba Gitana and Tangos, and learn to dance the Sevillanas.

HIP HOP A high-energy class that uses the latest sounds in rap, R&B and pop music together with movements influenced by some of today's hottest video choreographers.  Hip hop encompasses movement that has elements of poppin', locking, and breaking as well as freestyle movement to give students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.  Hip hop is urban, it's street, it's diverse and forever changing. 

MODERN DANCE FOR YOUTH  Students gain conceptual tools for understanding movement phenomena and build basic technical skills through dynamic phrases that explore the rhythmic complexity, expressive range and physicality.

 

MODERN TECHNIQUE, INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED  - This class provides experienced dancers with perspectives of modern dance and guides each dancer to develop strength, flexibility & inner connection

RELEASING INTO AERIAL age 15+- A combination of Skinner Releasing and aerial dance, this class uses the imagery and tactile exercises of Skinner Releasing to prime the body for movement through the air. A solid foundation of both techniques will be taught throughout the session

SKINNER RELEASING - No experience is necessary to enjoy this innovative approach to dance and the healing arts (yoga, body work etc.). Skinner Releasing promotes postural alignment, movement efficiency, tension reduction and spontaneity of movement. Releasing weaves poetic imagery, music & tactile exercises to integrate the whole self and tap into the creative process for each individual.
